Ottery St Mary Barrel Burning Festival

New Video: Barrel Burning Madness in Devon

In this video I head to Devon and the town of Ottery St Mary for their bizarre and dangerous annual tradition - the Tar Barrel Festival.

Barrels are filled with tar, set alight and then the local residents run around the streets of the town with them burning fiercely.

Blackpool Heritage Trams

We did two trips on the Blackpool trip using Blackpool Heritage Trams. Both were great value.

The first was the Coastal Tour from Blackpool North Pier to Fleetwood and return. The trip was non-stop with about 45 minutes in Fleetwood. The tram was a 1930s 'balloon'. Around £8 return.

The second was the Illuminations Tour from Pleasure Beach to Bispham and return. It covered the full stretch of the lights without the need to be stuck in traffic, wrestling with crowds on the service trams, or further pounding the streets. Around £11 return. Highly recommended.

Blackpool South CAMC Site

We didn't manage a September trip due to unforeseen circumstances, but we made up for it with a cracking trip to Blackpool and a stay at the Caravan and Motorhome Club Blackpool South campsite. About 3 miles outside the town, everything was walk-able within just over an hour. The weather held off mostly and besides the sea air there was time for amusements, chips, tram rides and the illuminations.

Sunday Lunch on the East Lancashire Railway

New Video: Moving Swift-ly On 12. Lunching on the East Lancashire Railway

In this video we continue our stay at a sun-drenched Burrs Country Park CAMC site and head to the East Lancashire Railway. There's a station at Burrs for the short hop down to Bury Bolton Street station where we joined the Sunday lunch dining train.

The food was excellent, the carriages beautifully turned out and the staff were excellent. A warm day for it with us being on the 'sunny' side of the train but it was summer after all.

Bury Transport Museum

A few snaps from the Bury Transport Museum that we visited in the latest video.

There are some interesting exhibits with 60009 Union of South Africa the stand-out attraction.

Well worth £5 and an hour of your time if you're in the area, and with Gift Aid, you get a 12 month pass for repeat visits.

In this video we cycle along the Rochdale Canal from Hebden Bridge Caravan and Motorhome Club site at Cragg Vale, joining the canal in Mytholmroyd.

It might not be for everyone as it is extended GoPro footage from the handlebars, but for those not familiar with the area, hopefully it showcases the lovely stretch of the Calder Valley between Mytholmroyd and Todmorden, where we had a coffee and turned round.

New Video: Moving Swift-ly On 5. Cragg Vale Coiners Walk

In this video we return to the Hebden Bridge Caravan and Motorhome Club site in Cragg Vale, just outside Mytholmroyd.

One of the reasons for going was to walk the Cragg vale Coiners' Walk, a circular route taking in the history and locations of the Cragg Vale coiners, a notorious counterfeiting gang from the late seventeenth century.

And of course, afterwards we stopped for a pint!
